Enhanced Listing for VK950 COIN® Sprinkler Can Reduce or Eliminate Expensive Draft Curtains
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hastings, Michigan, USA – The Viking Corporation, a global leader in fire protection and life safety systems, has enhanced the cULus Listing for its 5.6 (80) K-factor quick response COIN® sprinkler. The new listing enables the VK950 upright sprinkler to protect combustible concealed spaces of up to 2,000 sq. ft. without draft curtains. In addition, the specific application VK950 features a remote area design calculation of 1,000 sq. ft., or six sprinklers, whichever is greater. This often makes the VK950 a drop-in replacement for competitive sprinklers with more stringent and expensive draft curtain requirements.
The VK950 UL Listing enhancement doubles the previous limit of 1,000 sq. ft., and is applicable for open truss construction with the top and bottom chord members on their face (wide side) and not on edge (short side). The updated VK950 technical datasheet contains complete design and installation details.
According to Darren Palmieri, Residential Market Manager for Viking, “Installing draft curtains is a significant expense and involves additional coordination before and during construction. In many applications the enhancement to 2,000 sq. ft. will eliminate draft curtain requirements altogether, or at a minimum significantly reduce the number of draft curtains required.”
The COIN® VK950 5.6K Quick Response Upright is a glass bulb sprinkler with a thread size of ½” NPT and an intermediate temperature rating of 200°F (93°C). Available finishes include brass and an ENT coating for installation in corrosive environments.
