Caledonia, Mich. – The Viking Corporation is expanding its dry sprinkler portfolio with the introduction of the VK197 Quick Response Dry Flat Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinkler, giving designers and contractors greater flexibility when protecting finished spaces exposed to freezing temperatures.
The VK197 combines the clean, concealed appearance of a flat plate sprinkler with the benefits of a dry sprinkler, making it well suited for applications where aesthetics matter, but freezing temperatures prevent the use of a conventional wet-system sprinkler.
The sprinkler is designed for use with dry and preaction systems where it is important to prevent water or condensation from entering the drop nipple before system operation. It can also be installed in spaces subject to freezing and supplied from a wet system in an adjacent heated area. Potential applications include finished freezer and cooler areas, exterior canopies, unheated vestibules and entryways, and other finished spaces exposed to freezing conditions.
“Customers shouldn't have to choose between protecting a challenging space and achieving the finished appearance they want,” said Martin Workman, Senior Vice President of Product Experience at Viking. “The VK197 gives designers and contractors another option for bringing concealed sprinkler protection to spaces where freezing temperatures require a dry solution.”
The VK197 is cULus Listed and available in quick response configurations. It features a 5.6 K-factor (80.6 metric) and 1-inch NPT thread. The sprinkler is available in 155°F (68°C) and 200°F (93°C) temperature ratings, with brass or corrosion-resistant ENT finishes.
Installation flexibility is further enhanced by ½-inch adjustment and available lengths from 5 inches to 48 inches, helping accommodate a range of ceiling configurations and installation requirements.
